We divided the city in four main areas: Via Costeira, Ponta Negra, Praia do Meio and other areas.

Natal hotels VIA COSTEIRA The poshest. Only high standard hotels. All hotels are on the sand beach.

PONTA NEGRA Close to the hot spots. Many choices. From cheap hostels to very comfortable on the beach hotels, with everything in between.

PRAIA DO MEIO By the beach, and very affordable. Good if you want quietness.

OTHER AREAS OF NATAL Hotels in downtown and other sectors of Natal.

MOTELS Good for short staying.

Looking for Youth Hostels? The Portuguese for that is Albergue da Juventude; there are currently two hostels in Natal listed by the official Youth Hostel Federation guide (Verdes Mares and Lua Cheia, both in Ponta Negra). Check the updated list of hostels in Natal at the website of official Youth Hostels in Brazil (look for the English version).

Hotels in Natal - General comments

Natal has many hotels, and more are being built.

Natal hotels
Blue Tree Hotel,
in Via Costeira

The high season goes from November through February, and again in July. Several hotels are sold out, and some try to impose absurd prices to last minute guests. Shop around (check out this survey on hotel prices), book early, or even better, try to visit Natal during the low season.

There are a couple of four and five star hotels in Natal; most of them are new and are located on the Via Costeira. All these hotels are as close as possible to the waterfront; nearly all rooms have front sea view, but there are a few with lateral view, so make sure to ask. All hotels have the basic comfort items expected from a high class hotel (air conditioner, cable TV, laundry, restaurant, etc), but there may be some differences on specific items (e.g. bathtubes, saunas, broadband internet access, etc).

The hotels in Ponta Negra have a wider quality range. Some pousadas are basic (away from beach, fans instead of air conditioners, communitary TV set), while some hotels have all the comfort from Via Costeira. This is what you can expect from the average hotel in Ponta Negra: breakfast included in the price (notice, however, that some places charge a 10% service charge, while others don't); air conditioner; cable TV (the channels available will depend on the cable operator; basic channels like CNN and BBC are all around, but some specific channels like ESPN or HBO are not); direct phone from the room is available for you to connect a notebook to the internet, but online computers are not. A main factor in determining prices is the distance from the beach; notice that, because much of Ponta Negra is on top of a hill, you may have full view of the sea, but yet have to walk much to get to the beach.

Check out also: hotels in Pipa, 70 km South of Natal; hotels in Recife are usually cheaper, but older than the ones in Natal; hotels in Fortaleza are also cheaper, and as new as those in Natal.
