On November 1st 2005, another five star hotel was opened in Natal: the Serhs Natal Grand Hotel, on Via Costeira.
The hotel was built by Serhs, the third largest Spanish group, which invested US$ 100 million in the project. This is the first five star hotel of the holding, which operates elevens hotels in the Coast of Spain, all in the four star category, according to Jan von Bahr, project manager. Still according to Bahr, the initial idea was to invest in the energy sector, but, during an inspection visit, the President of the holding fell in love with Natal and decided for the hotel.
From the purchase of land to the opening of the hotel, it took four years. The total area of the hotel is 30,000 square meters. All the 396 rooms have a sea view, balcony and plasma TV. The leisure area is 10,000 sq.mt. large, and includes a club for children. a 1,000 sq.mt. swimming pool and a 800 sq.mt. spa.
The architectonic design seeked to integrate the hotel with the landscape. The color and shape (like a staircase) of the hotel create a blend with the dunes. The decoration uses plenty of wood, clay and fabric.
In the beginning, the daily fee will be around R$ 450 (about US$ 200). For 2006, the occupation rate should be around 75%. The hotel expects 60% of guests coming from Europe, and 40% Brazilians.
